The principles of acupressure/acupuncture have been modified to suit the needs of modern life and advanced technologies. Now acupoints are commonly treated utilizing transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (aka TENS) and laser light from cold laser or LED diodes in specific wavelengths shown to have rapid and lasting effects.

Acupressure philosophy and acupoint stimulation is based on the same principles as Acupuncture. By using pressure, electric stimulation or laser light instead of needles, it works to stimulate specific reflex points located along the lines of energy which run through the body, called meridians. There are 14 main meridian lines, each of which corresponds to an individual organ of the body. When the vital energies are able to flow through the meridians in a balanced and even way, the result is good health. When you experience pain or illness it is an indication that there is a block or leak in the energy flow within your body.

There is a natural source of healing power in everyone. When this healing power is activated, it triggers a series of intricate internal processes, which produces a Healing Response. Pain, injury or stimulation to your body alerts your body that help is needed. This is when the Healing Response begins by the unleashing of endorphins into your blood to help heal the affected area. The heart rate increases, blood pressure is altered and the delivery of endorphins and nutrients required for repair is excellerated. This speeds up the elimination of toxins from the damaged area, which also promotes healing.

Acupresure or Acu-Light Therapy induces this Healing Response by simulating the injury through pressure or the application of cold laser light. When applied to specific sore points along the meridians at different points for different conditions, this pressure or light tricks the body into thinking it has been damaged. The body then produces endorphins to relieve distress in the organs and systems corresponding to that Acupressure point. While the body is healing at the point of pain, it produces a Healing Response all along the meridian. Electric stimulation and Laser Light is commonly applied to acupressure points instead of pressure to induce the healing response. It is easier to apply and often works faster.

The goal with Acupressure and cold laser therapy is to learn the points that will produce the Healing Response for the conditions we want to fix. Through repetitive Acu-Point treatments, the body learns a new and effective way to activate the Healing Response on its own and increases the power to heal itself without any outside intervention.

For the conditions listed below, you will find points that the experts agree help these conditions and they are easy to find. Sometimes you only need a few points to get results.

How to Apply Acupressure:

To find the appropriate point, read the description and then find the general area on your skin. Gently probe the area until you find that point which gives you a “funny bone” feeling or is sensitive, tender or sore. Then press hard enough to make the point hurt or stimulate with an appropriate laser or electric stimulation device.

You can use a steady pressure or a five seconds on and five seconds off rotating pressure for the time you stimulate the point. Usually one minute is sufficient for each treatment session. Regular, systematic treatment usually gets the best results because the effects of Acupressure and Acu-light therapy are cumulative. At first, frequent treatment is recommended. Treatment three times daily with pressure for five to ten minutes or twice daily with  a cold laser may be necessary.

Some report almost immediate results; others may need a few weeks to get lasting results. Acupressure is safe. Side effects are very rare. Treat while sitting down and do not administer after meals. One of the most portable yet highly-effective methods of complementary health care is Acupressure. It requires no more than a chart and a hand to administer treatments, though treatments can be administered with wooden tools or electronic stimulation devices or cold laser light therapy devices, and may be coupled with massage and essential oils. Acupressure has been used successfully for thousands of years to help millions of people. Some of the excerpts of this article on Acupressure were provided by Monte Cunningham, a man who has written several books on the subject and spent more than 35 years studying this health care modality.

For a country ,like ours, acupressure is the best treatment. It should be propagated and in a cluster of 3-4 villages/in a small tawnship, there should be a practicing acupressure therapist who should charge nominal fee. In fact the govt should encourage it like other alternative medicines.
